Job Title: Faculty in Pathology
Schedule: Full Time, Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
- This position is responsible for
teaching at Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine as required. This position
fulfills duties to further the mission of the department and College by
participating in student education, student counseling, scholarly activities,
and service. Faculty members are encouraged to conduct original
research/scholarly activities and pursue extramural funding in their areas of
interest.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Serves as an educator ensuring
the quality, integrity, and defined standards within faculty's discipline
- Develops and delivers content in
Biomedical Sciences relevant courses/modules with prior teaching experience in
general and systemic pathology and can integrate clinical and biomedical
disciplines into teaching methodology.
- Ensures teaching is current and
appropriate for the context of the curriculum and increases student
understanding of subject matter.
- Remain available when content is
active during office hours, visiting pod groups, answering questions via
university messaging software (email, teams)
- Develop and refine a bank of
relevant midterm/final exam questions, daily quiz questions, quick check
questions, pod activities and cycles reviews for relevant material and content.
- Provide curricular structure and
experiences that integrate emerging knowledge with practical longitudinal
clinical experience, aligning curriculum and process to prepare learners for
the fast-paced evolution of biomedical advances.
- Works effectively as a team
member to enhance and improve curricula, including potential opportunities for
collaborative efforts within the department or with outside individuals,
programs, or departments, maintaining a climate hospitable to creativity and
innovation.
- Develops and maintains a working
knowledge of various teaching and assessment approaches (small group, bedside
teaching, mentoring, lecture, independent practice-based learning, evidenced
based medicine approach, simulation including institutional simulation, online
learning and interactive video scenario, standardized patient, case-based
teaching, flipped classroom, etc.).
- Provides effective, active
support as advisor and mentor (students, pre-doctoral fellows, post-graduate
residents/fellows, and /or faculty-peers, clubs, societies and organizations),
fulfills duties and responsibilities as coach/mentor to assigned students.
- Accomplishes annual professional
development requirements (college-wide, human resources, track focused, etc.)
structured to support the mission of the College.
- Participates in research and
scholarly activities
- Collaborates with and/or mentors’
staff and students (internal or external) in the development of research
questions and implementation of research projects. Responsibilities include
organizing ideas, formulating conceptual models, brainstorming on the best
research design and methods, attaining IRB approval, and collecting, analyzing
and synthesizing data in an effort to support scholarly activities such as preparing
manuscripts for publication; presenting findings at local, national and
international conferences; and submitting grant proposals to intramural and
extramural grant programs in an effort to successfully secure research funding
and to develop and maintain positive rapport with funding agencies, etc.
- Represent Noorda-COM and the BMS
Department at local, regional, national, and international meetings,
conferences, and events when presenting research.
- Facilitates and/or contributes
towards interdepartmental research collaborations.
- Actively engages in the
advancement of the College through professionalism and service
- Builds collaborative partnership
opportunities across and among various entities participating in networking
opportunities, (internal and external partners [elected officials, state
constitutional officers, business and community leaders] other colleges and
universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.) promoting relationships
with the College.
- Refers to and coordinates in
advance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on all
media contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message,
promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, content
expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College.
- Coordination in advance with the
Communications team in the Office of the President on all Noorda-COM related
legislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and local
government officials, in which asked to serve as an official representative,
content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College.
- Serves on various committees and
teams within the College as assigned (attending meetings, contributing to
discussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents toward
goal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (students, clubs, campus
organizations).
- Contributes to College's
compliance with and in the development of required documentation as related to
accreditation of the College to which departmental content is contributed
(faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review,
providing input/feedback, etc.), aiding in the attainment of academic
compliance.
- Participates in the production
of various College materials [academic calendar, strategic planning, directory,
College website, etc.] (collecting/preparing materials, organizing/formatting
data, adhering to various deadlines, reviewing drafts, providing
input/feedback, etc.).
- Contributes to the College's
reputation/image of being one of the best osteopathic medical colleges
(monitoring outcomes, partnering with internal and external stakeholders,
modifying techniques, etc.).
- Is knowledgeable of and remains
in compliance with all institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the
Employee Handbook for Noorda-COM College.
- Contributes to team effort by performing
other duties as needed/assigned
- Participates in interviewing
prospective students each application cycle, as well as additional duties
relating to prospective students such as calls/communication to accepted
students.
- Volunteering to help with school
sponsored events e.g. Orientation, Whitecoat Ceremony, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- DO, MD or MD/PhD required with pathology
anatomic/clinical residency or practice experience highly recommended (current
practice/ licensure not required) US citizenship or permanent residency is
required.
Experience:
- Teaching: Candidates should have
experience in teaching medical, allied health and/ or graduate students,
preference will be given to those with experience specifically in an
osteopathic program, and those with active learning experience. Histology and pathology
microscopy experience (preferred). Clinical experience to integrate
into systemic content.
- Research: Demonstration of
effective performance in research. Presenting posters or abstracts
at local, state, or national conferences. Presenting lectures at local,
state, or national conferences. Participating as a principal
investigator or co-investigator in extramural research grants, contracts or
training grants.
- Evidence of effective,
consistent mentoring of students, pre-doctoral fellows, post-graduate
residents/fellows, and /or faculty-peers.
- Service: Demonstration of
involvement in intramural and/or extramural committee service including:
- Consistent membership in
multiple concurrent committees, working to advance or promote the mission and
vision of the college or department.
- Leadership role (chair,
vice-chair, etc.) highly recommended but not required.
Skills & Abilities:
- Highly professional with honest,
genuine, direct communication style, excellent interpersonal skills and
emotional maturity with the essential ability to demonstrate tact, discretion
and job diplomacy towards supervisors, colleagues and administrative
assistants/ staff. Significant understanding of higher education policies,
practices and protocols. Proven track record of quality, integrity and trustworthiness.
